Accelerate eyelash growth: How to conjure up long, thick eyelashes

Table of contents

Who doesn’t dream of long, thick eyelashes? But not everyone is blessed with such eyelashes by nature. Fortunately, there are various ways to change this – from mascara and eyelash serums to eyelash extensions and thickening.

But every method has its pros and cons. That’s why today is all about tips, tricks and how to find the right care for your eyelashes.

Dream lashes: the desire of many women

Have you ever wondered why long eyelashes are so popular? In many cultures, they are even considered an ideal of beauty, as they are associated with youth and health. They are also always in the spotlight in the fashion world and the beauty industry.

Because eyelashes have a big influence on how your eyes are perceived. Dense, long eyelashes make your eyes look bigger and more expressive. Why is that? They open up your gaze and thus emphasise the eye area. But your lashes are much more than just a beauty feature! They also protect your eyes from dust and dirt. That’s why they are also an important part of your eye health.

How can you promote natural lash growth?

First of all, we should clarify how eyelashes actually grow. From this, we can also determine how we can stimulate growth.

The eyelash growth cycle consists of three phases:

Growth phase (anagen phase):

The first phase lasts about 30–40 days. This is the period during which your eyelashes are actively growing.

transition phase (catagen phase):

After that, growth stops and the hair follicles of the eyelash hairs begin to shrink. This process takes about two to three weeks.

Resting phase (telogen phase):

The last phase can last up to 100 days. When it is over, the lash falls out and the cycle starts all over again.

While growth plays a major role in how your lashes look in general, it’s not the only factor! No one wants lashes that are brittle and fall out quickly. That’s why you should not only promote growth, but also strengthen and care for your lashes.

Tips for eyelash care

Really good eyelash care starts with cleaning! If you run your finger over your made-up eyelashes, you may feel that they are quite stiff. Many mascara products deliberately create this effect to provide long-lasting curl.

But stiff lashes are delicate! The lack of elasticity makes them much more likely to break or fall out. Therefore, you should follow these steps when removing your make-up:

Use eye make-up remover:

The eye area is very sensitive. That’s why it’s best to use products specially developed for it, such as micellar water, two-phase removers or oil-based cleansers.

Tip: Oil-based cleansers are the easiest way to remove particularly stubborn or waterproof make-up.

Choose mild products:

It’s better to avoid products with irritating ingredients. Substances such as alcohol, essential oils and fragrances put a strain on the skin and dry out your eyelashes. This makes them more prone to breakage.

Gentle cleansing:

Soak a cotton pad with your favourite make-up remover and place it on your closed eyelid for 10-30 seconds. This step helps to soften your make-up.

Then you can start wiping off your make-up from top to bottom and from inside to outside – without applying much pressure.

Tip: You can easily sew your own reusable make-up removal pads from fabric remnants. This not only protects the environment, but also saves you money.

Subsequent cleaning:

Oil-based products can often leave residues, especially if you use them to remove make-up. These are best removed with water-based cleansers such as cleansing gel or cleansing foam.

Post care:

Even gentle cleansing removes valuable oils and fats that your skin and eyelashes need. Castor oil, coconut oil, almond oil and olive oil are known to support hair growth – and the same applies to eyelashes!

Simply apply a thin layer of oil to your lashes and lash line using your finger or a cotton bud after cleansing. This allows the nutrients to care for and strengthen your lashes overnight.

Nutrition for healthy eyelash growth

Of course, you should not only supply nutrients from the outside, but also from the inside. A balanced diet is essential to provide your eyelashes with everything they need. The most important vitamins and minerals for optimal eyelash growth are:

  • Biotin
  • Vitamin E
  • Omega-3 fatty acids

For fast-growing, healthy eyelashes, foods such as nuts, seeds, green leafy vegetables and fish should not be missing from your shopping list.

Eyelash serums: do they really work?

Sometimes even the best care is not enough to achieve the dream of long, thick eyelashes. This is where eyelash serums come into play:

Eyelash serums are specially developed products that can stimulate the growth of eyelashes. They often contain ingredients such as peptides, biotin and hyaluronic acid, which strengthen the eyelashes and promote growth. When choosing one, you should pay attention to the following points:

  • Good eyelash serums are dermatologically tested and thus safe for use around the eyes.
  • Avoid harmful and irritating ingredients such as fragrances.
  • A good serum should be easy to apply. You can tell, for example, by whether it has a fine brush for precise application.
  • High-quality packaging is important because only a well-sealed eyelash serum can be stored and remain effective in the long term.

Additional tips for beautiful eyelashes

In addition to the right care for natural eyelash extensions and eyelash serums, there are other tips and tricks to get your lashes in top form:

Eyelash curlers – They give your eyelashes curl, making them appear longer. You should always curl your eyelashes before using mascara. Be sure to apply only gentle pressure when doing so. If you briefly warm the curler with a hair dryer, the curl will last even longer. Be careful not to hurt yourself while doing this.

Mascara – This emphasises your lashes and makes them appear more voluminous. Apply your mascara in zigzag movements to prevent clumps forming. If you want particularly fanned-out lashes, it’s better to apply several thin layers than one thick one. This will also make them appear thicker.

But the most important tip for long eyelashes is: patience.

Because eyelashes don’t grow overnight. It can even take weeks or months to see the first results. So no matter what tricks and methods you use, stay patient and stick to your routine regularly to be rewarded with your dream lashes.
